BChD Leader Pavel Seviarynets’ Interview with Belsat, 24 September 2026

The BChD congress is due to take place in a month, on 24 October. What is its main goal?

The main goal of the BChD congress is to revive Belarusian Christian Democracy as a mass political force. The congress marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the historic BChD party: on 24 October 1926, a congress of Belarusian Christian Democrats took place in Vilnius, at which the Belarusian Christian Democratic Union, established in 1917, became BChD.

The congress aims to unite the different strands of BChD and highlight the more than a century-long tradition of the Christian democratic movement, which has always upheld Christian values, democracy, national interests and the Belarusian national revival.

Białystok, a key centre of the Belarusian diaspora in Poland, has been chosen as the venue for the BChD congress. In keeping with European political tradition, party congresses are usually held outside capital cities. Białystok lies halfway between Vilnius and Warsaw, where the largest numbers of Belarusians abroad live.
