Friends, I Would Like to Introduce You to Taisiya Kabanchuk

Таісія Кабанчук

BChD Congress delegate Aliaksandra Tsiarentsyeva introduces Taisiya Karpauna Kabanchuk, one of the leaders of Belarusian Christian Democracy.

Her path into civic activity and the opposition began with personal tragedy and hardship: her son became one of the first political prisoners under Lukashenka’s regime. That turning point prompted Taisa to reflect deeply on responsibility for the country’s future. She began to take an active interest in the Belarusian language and national culture and joined the opposition movement.

Taisa became one of the first founders of the Belarusian Christian Democracy (BChD) party in Belarus.

For a long time, Taisiya Karpauna successfully led the BChD group in Babruisk and later coordinated the BChD Mahiliou regional organisation, applying Christian values in her work. She stood for parliament, collected signatures for opposition candidates and actively promoted democratic change.

After the start of the full-scale war, Taisa’s life changed dramatically once again. Her son Vadzim announced the formation of the Kalinouski Regiment, which forced her to emigrate to Warsaw.

Life in exile proved difficult: in Warsaw, Taisa had to change accommodation and move 16 times. Yet these hardships did not break her spirit. She continued her work: bringing people together and taking an active part in demonstrations and rallies. Taisa also organised the collection of humanitarian aid for the Kalinouski Regiment and hosted soldiers travelling to the front or returning from the war in her home.

Taisiya Karpauna always shares with us, the younger generation, her experience, initiative and faith in victory and a return to our homeland.
