RESOLUTION OF THE CONGRESS OF BELARUSIAN CHRISTIAN DEMOCRACY
Today, as war rages next to Belarus and heroic Ukraine holds back Putin’s aggression, Belarusian Christian Democracy calls on the countries of the free world to unite in resisting the Kremlin and to prevent the engulfment of Ukraine and Belarus. Peace must not be achieved at the cost of appeasing the aggressor — for this only emboldens predators.
BChD welcomes the efforts of Western states aimed at curbing Russian chauvinism and unconditionally supports Belarusian volunteers fighting for our freedom and yours in Ukraine.
For three decades now, Lukashenka’s regime has been an ally and facilitator of Russian aggression, a destroyer of Belarusian statehood and a tyrannical autocracy. BChD sees its goal as the liberation of Belarus from Lukashenka’s criminal regime, the preservation of Belarusian independence and its European prospects.
Belarus’s place is in the family of free European nations.
BChD affirms that, amid the global whirlwind of events, it is vital for Belarusian democratic forces to preserve fundamental unity and basic agreements among themselves. What unites us — Belarus, independence and a European future — is far greater than what divides us.
BChD is ready to become a binding force uniting Belarusians in the free world and in Belarus, and Belarusians of different political views, denominations and traditions. Either we stand together — or we will cease to exist!
We see Christian values and the experience of democracy as the answer to the horror of war, the destruction of international agreements, and the crisis of security, the economy and cultural identity. On the centenary of the founding of the Belarusian Christian Democracy party, BChD calls for reflection on, and application of, a thousand years of experience in combining Christianity and democracy on Belarusian lands.
BChD demands the release of all Belarusian political prisoners, including eight BChD members, and welcomes the efforts of the United States and the European Union aimed at ending repression.
BChD calls on the states of the free world, in all contacts with representatives of Lukashenka’s regime, invariably to demand the release of political prisoners and an end to pressure on Christian communities, non-governmental organisations and media in Belarus, in order to ensure freedom of conscience, assembly and expression for all Belarusians.
Long live Belarus — with God!
